Abstract Expressionism de Kooning

A first-generation Abstract Expressionist, Willem de Kooning is one of the most important performers for the twentieth century. In 1950s New York, whenever painters like Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline had been leaving representational imagery toward pure abstraction, de Kooning maintained dedication towards the figurative custom, developing a trademark style that fused brilliant color and aggressive paint dealing with with deconstructed photos regarding the feminine form—a then-controversial human body of works that has been called his “Women” paintings. “Flesh was the reason oil paint had been invented, ” he famously stated.
