Abstract nude Art

Escha van den Bogerd is a painter from Holland whose work combines both the female figure and abstract elements.

Her paintings of nudes (semi-nudes, truly) make use of a difficult, abstract history to set off the figure itself.

Luminaria, seen below, is one instance.

Van den Bogerd developed points of severe high and low values, putting the figure appropriate between them to stress a sense of emotion and motion even though the lady is lying still.

Due to the fact name reveals, however, this artwork is dominated because of the mass of glowing, fantastic light, and it is less towards figure versus effect of the lighting it self.

Riposo2 is, I think, far more effective at establishing the girl since the main topic for the artwork.

A feeling of reduction and sadness tend to be beautifully portrayed in the way the girl is sitting, as she hides her face with a hand.

Notice van der Bogerd using a smoother application of this paint for the woman’s legs. I’d like to see that same sculptural high quality into the remainder of the woman paintings aswell, letting the figures by themselves come forward more, away from the textural background.

Needless to say, when painting nudes there’s constantly a fine line between your provocative plus the just sensual. In my opinion, those two paintings are great types of the latter. I don’t think all of her paintings achieve that goal, then again once again that’s most likely section of their appeal.
